the secret of life

inspired by the show: ’girl meets world’

i recently reconnected with my 3rd grade best friend, and she’s so different from what i remember her as, obviously, i’m different too.

what threw me for a loop was that we both have grown up as complete polar opposites. from different friend groups to different mindsets. we were so similar that it shocked me to see how different we grew up to be.

it makes me wonder how we would’ve turned out had we stayed friends, would we have become milder versions of our current selves or would we have swayed towards one version pr we turned out the same, exactly as we are right now, i guess we’ll never know.

this reminded me of the saying that is repeated innumerable times throughout the show(girl meets world), “people change people”.

this at its most basic level means that you have some sort of impact, big or small on people you meet or in society with. however, it also implies that you, your actions and reactions can have an impact profound enough that it could change another person.

i’ve changed, for the good and the bad; while academics had never taken the front seat in my car until two years ago, suddenly it’s steering the wheel. someone changed me.

my personality changed from a loud firecracker to a quiet little mouse and back to somewhere in the middle, somebody changed me.

but just because people change people, doesn’t mean you can’t change yourself, some of the smallest, almost negligible changes i’ve brought to my own life have brought across a whole universe of change in my way of living.

kindness and charity also changes people, that’s when you become immortal. you live in the hearts and minds of people for so many years to come and make them smile when they think of you.

the world is full of two kinds of people: us, who can get up tomorrow morning and buy a bagel just because we want one or order in dinner instead of cooking. and there’s them who cannot do any of this, its a privilege they rarely experience. another secret of life is what us do for them. people change people.

think about it your impact on someone, how they remember you and how you change them- that’s the secret of life and that’s all that matters in the end.
